8 NextGen Entrepreneurs Sponsored to Attend the Nantucket Conference

Each year some of the most successful and influential entrepreneurs, investors and executives from Boston and beyond gather on the island of Nantucket to share insights, war stories, and to network in a different environment.  Last year, there was some controversy brought up over the fact that there was only one person under 30 at the event.

In response, a number of investors volunteered to sponsor under 30 entrepreneurs to attend the 2011 version.  We're pleased to announce the 8 young entrepreneurs attending and the investors who supported their attendance.

The New Rules for Tech Startups

Saturday's RamenCamp was an amazing day of passionate speakers and entrepreneurs. Whether it was Seth Lieberman laying the smack down talking about "SteakCamp" and "square pegs & round holes" or David Hauser inspiring everyone with the story of Grasshopper and the importance of culture, every speaker shared important lessons and sage advice for really building a business.

It was truly inspiring to see so many people excited about not just starting a company, but letting go of the, "I need investment to do this" mantra. With all of this coming together yesterday and a Bolt Bus trip to NYC giving me time to reflect, I want to share my thoughts on building a company in this climate as I set out to start my next company.

When it comes to bootstrapping, Cataphora speaks as a company that has done so, possibly more successfully than any other software startup in Silicon Valley history. Although we cannot pass along a simple formula, here are some factors that contributed to our success:

7 Tips for Planning an Event When You Have No Time

Entrepreneurs are all about solving problems. They also have a strong "work hard, play hard" attitude. Those two traits can often put you in the position of wanting to take on a side project to put on an event for the startup community. Whether you want to educate them like we are with RamenCamp this weekend, or throwing an epic party like #RubyRiot last night, the limiting factor can often be how much time you can devote to it.

Having run Greenhorn Connect while working at oneforty and still found time to organize two big events (d8event in February, and the aforementioned RamenCamp), I'd like to share a few tips on how you can plan a great event even when you have no time. Read More...

Are you part of the Transactional Economy or the Pay It Forward Economy?

As I've recently set out on a new journey in my career, I've been out and about a lot more, meeting with people, making connections and getting on the pulse of our ecosystem.  It's been an awesome experience thus far, but I've noticed an underlying trend in our community that I'm hoping we can all work to improve upon.

There are two ways to operate your network: the Transactional Economy or the Pay It Forward Economy.  We would all be better off with the latter philosophy driving us.
