Founder Fridays: Peekaboo Mobile
Who are the faces behind a company? How did the company get started? These are common question you may have about startups you see and hear about. If you don't get a chance to personally meet the founders, you're unlikely to ever know their story. That's where we're starting Founder Fridays.
Each week, we'll profile a different startup (with ties to Boston) through a simple interview that highlights some of the simple questions that make all the difference for a startup like, "How did you meet your co-founders?" and "What was the best advice you ever received?"
This week, we have Ben Dolgoff from Peekaboo Mobile, who have created a highly localized smart phone coupon system for local businesses.
Founders Friday: Peekaboo Mobile
1) What is your current Startup? (Name & URL)
Current startup is called Peekaboo Mobile (www.PeekabooMobile.com)
2) What's the elevator pitch?
Peekaboo is a mobile application that uses your phones GPS to find exclusive coupons, deals and promotions directly around you. Simply find a deal you want and then redeem it directly from your phone. There is no clipping or printing!

3) When did you know you wanted to be an entrepreneur?
My sophomore year of high school when I started working for my father as a carpenter. He has had is own carpentry business since he was 25. He supported our family financially and was also always at every one of my sporting events. It always amazed me how he could always make it to everything I was part of. Ever since then I knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur so I could be passionate about what I did and have the flexibility to go where I wanted to go.
4) How did you meet your co-founder?
I met my co-founder, Mike Fruzzetti, when I attended Suffolk University. We had the same group of friends and we were always passionate about starting our own business. One night we met up at the Purple Shamrock (A bar in downtown Boston) with some friends and had a few drinks. After one drink to many we decided to work together and the next day we established our company Byte Ventures, LLC.
5) What was the best advice you ever got?
Network, Network, Network! It really is all about who you know. Make mutually beneficial relationships. Help others and they will in return help you.
6) What Startup(s) are you most excited about today? Why?
SCVNGR. I think they have a great idea and they are doing an amazing job spreading the word. They are one of the hottest startups in Boston at the moment. Seth Priebatsch is doing a great job leading the team over at Scvngr.
7) What's your favorite part about being an entrepreneur?
I love the insanity! Every day is different. You might have a rough idea of what your day will entail but at the end of the day it usually looks nothing like you originally planned. It’s exciting not knowing what will happen next.
8) If you could recommend one book for entrepreneur's to read, what would it be and why?
Coming from my marketing perspective I love “Made to Stick” by Chip and Dan Heath. The book has hundreds of great ideas on how to make your idea/product memorable to your audience. With all the competition out there today it is extremely important to make your marketing efforts “sticky.”
