The Greenhorn Year

There are a lot of incredible initiatives around Boston attempting to cultivate an entrepreneurial community. Greenhorn Connect has and always will strive to connect those interested in entrepreneurship to the local community. Walter Somol, our Tier 1 Microsoft NERD sponsor and good friend, suggested we lay out our plan for the year so everyone knows how we plan to contribute our part to the community. The goal is to make everyone aware so they know what’s to come and how they can get involved. So Boston startup-ers, here it is…

The Objective

Greenhorn Connect’s most valued resource is the calendar where we serve as a hub to promote the great events and initiatives happening in Boston. But occasionally we also organize events so that we develop closer relationships with key interest areas. This year that interest group will primarily be the local students.

Event Timeline

October 2012- The Greenhorn Summit is the first student focused entrepreneurship conference in Boston. We’re bringing 75 business students and 75 engineering students interested in startups to learn from local entrepreneurs and connect with hiring companies.

February 2013- Career fairs aren’t where you’re going to find your next VP of Engineering. But it is where you’ll find interns and entry/ mid level hustlers and hackers. At this event you’ll be able to recruit students and young professionals looking to work with Boston’s most innovative technology companies at “startup friendly” prices.

Ramencamp- June 2013- There’s a lot of buzz around raising millions of dollars to grow the next world changing company. But true entrepreneurs build companies to solve problems and not to get featured in TechCrunch. Attend this no-BS conference to learn how to bootstrap and grow a successful company.

We’re not aiming to solve every problem and 10x Boston entrepreneurship. But, through these flagship events and other similar initiatives, we hope to do our part clogging up the brain drain and fostering a stronger community. In addition to these events we will also be organizing smaller meetups with students and entrepreneurs, working with local organizations to build a better Boston and growing our resources to make our website more valuable to you.

Interested in what we’re doing? Here’s how you can help!

1.     Sponsorship. More financing means we’ll have more flexibility for events and for our team to grow Greenhorn Connect’s presence. If you’re trying to connect with students, acquire top talent and/or foster a stronger startup community please reach out.

2.     Don’t Duplicate Efforts.  Are you working on student initiatives? Organizing a bootstrapping conference in the summer? Let us know and we can help. There are a lot of great people trying to do awesome things in Boston to help the community. But disparate efforts will never work as well as one unified front.

3.     Be transparent. We’re trying to be as transparent as possible for the greater good of the community. We ask that you do the same. Let everyone know what you’re working on and if you have ideas for us don’t hesitate to tell us.

Working on connecting students to startups and fostering a stronger community? Here’s how we can help you!

1.     Reaching out to Students. We strive to be the most comprehensive resources for Boston entrepreneurs so that anyone new to the community can jump right in. That obviously includes our incredible student population. Reaching out to them isn’t as difficult as you may think. We’ll show you!

2.     Events and Promotion.  Do you have an awesome initiative or event you’re working on? Please let us know so we can help raise awareness and offer advice on best practices to help your cause.

3.     Finding Talent.  Finding great talent is and always will be an issue with startups. We are working to develop a better job board and on events that give startups opportunities to connect with talent they otherwise may never have had the chance to.
