Diversity in Tech: Stop Talking, Start Taking Action with Design

February 23, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

About This Event

Introduction
We have been to diversity panels and listened to countless talks.

We have all recognized that the lack of diversity is a major problem in the tech community – not only in Boston, but also all over the US.

General Assembly and Resilient Coders have come together because we are done talking. Join us for an event focused on action. Learn to use the principles of design thinking to build actionable steps we can all take to foster diversity in tech.

Why It Matters
David Delmar, Founder of Resilient Coders, told Microsoft New England in an interview that his inspiration for the organization came out of an experience he’d had at a huge tech festival.

“When I counted maybe 14 people of color out of 10s of thousands. That’s a real problem. That’s an actual problem. I started trying to code my way out of it,” Delmar said. “But It’s not a software problem. It is a people problem. It is a roll up your sleeves and get in there problem.”

What You’ll Take Away
Leave with tools and solutions to take back to your workplace or community and start implementing real change tomorrow.
